Fresh Easy Salsa

We Love salsa and chips in our house! The only problem is store bought salsa is filled with so much crap and its super salty that its just not good!

*I want to apologize for the not so good pictures they were taken on my phone late at night. LOL

Here is a super easy recipe I came up with for salsa, you will need

  • 7 or so tomatoes cut in half
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (or to taste)
  • pinch of salt (to taste)
  • pinch of garlic powder (to taste)
  • 1/2 to 1 whole depending on heat desired Habanero Pepper (or pepper of choice Serrano and Jalapeno work too)
  • Cilantro (optional)
  • tortilla chips

*If you want a chunkier salsa save some of the chopped onion off to the side along with a chopped up tomato.

Wash and cut tomatoes  and Pepper in half and place on a cookie sheet cut side down.

Broil on high for 5+ mins (just watch and keep an eye on them you want the tops a little blackened but don’t burn them!!)

Place Onion in blender then add the hot blackened tomatoes and pepper. Add salt, cilantro and garlic and puree.

Once done pureeing taste test with a chip! If more salt is needed add now then mix.  Transfer to bowl or jars for storing.

*for the  chunkier salsa now is when you add in the onion and tomato you set aside and fold in.

Now you are ready to eat and enjoy your fresh salsa if you like it warm which I happen to love! But if you prefer cold salsa put it in the fridge and enjoy it later.

We love homemade salsa to! I roast my tomatoes, peppers and garlic under the broiler before throwing everything in the blender. Hubby is a picky eater. Nothing’s better than homemade!
